Poverty and hunger
As one human race we must share our wealth to help protect human life everywhere and make sure everybody has everthing that they need.
Poverty
Less and less people are living in poverty in Cambodia. The poverty rate more than halved, from 53% in 2004 to 20.5% in 2011. approximately 1.5 million people in Cambodia live on less then $1.25 a day. 15.4% of the population is malnourished
Food Insecurity
Food insecurity is not knowing when your next meal is going to be. Two thirds of the country's 1.6 million rural households face seasonal food shortages each year.
Cambodian diet
Rice is a big part of the Cambodian diet and is served in every meal. Fish makes up 60% of Cambodians protein intake. 15.4% of the Cambodian population is undernourished.
Health Conditions Related to Hunger
Pregnant women who are undernourished are more likely to have low-birthweight babies. These infants are more likely to suffer delays in their development and are more likely to have behavior and learning problems later in life. Malnutrition leads to stunted growth and illness.
Jobs and Working Conditions
Those working in the public sector, such as public school teachers, face the problem of receiving extremely low wages. Thus, they often are forced to take other part-time work to pay for their expenses. There are many protests about the low wages factory workers receive.
Housing
Land in Cambodia is being seized for logging, agriculture, mining, tourism and fisheries. Soaring land prices have touched off what one official called a frenzy of land grabs by the rich and powerful. The seizures can be violent, including late-night raids by the police and military. Sometimes, shanty neighborhoods burn down, apparently victims of arson.
